Veg Moves Presents: Jivamukti with Ronnie Fernandez

Ronnie Fernandez (Rani) initially practiced yoga to gain the flexibility he needed to use in pole dancing. He was drawn more into the practice as he was introduced to different styles of yoga. As a vegan, he instantly resonated with Jivamukti Yoga because of its true embodiment of ahimsa (non-harming), which practically is what veganism is all about. The complete yoga experience which includes meditation, chanting and spiritual teachings, and its practices as a path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings, made him choose Jivamukti as the style of yoga to teach. He is indebted to his teacher Nancy Siy for guiding him to practice with awareness and non-attachment. As a result, he went deeper into studying eastern philosophies, which he had curiosities about and inclinations to even as a free-spirited young boy. He mostly practices (true) buddhism and maintains that he is neither theist nor atheist, and celebrates and embraces all faiths and non-faiths. His way of living is S/self-awareness and mindfulness. Yes, he still misplaces his keys and parking tickets. And yes, he has his whole human life to practice and hopefully progress.

Veg Talk Presents: Veganism, Compassion On Your Plate with Nancy Siy -

Nancy is a vegan, an animal rights activist, and a yoga teacher. The style of yoga that she teaches, Jivamukti Yoga, emphasizes veganism as a way to practice compassion for all beings. She was a heavy meat-eater for most of her life, but that changed in November 2009 when she read The Story of a Downed Cow, an article in PETA's Vegetarian Starter Kit. Overnight, she changed her eating habits. In a span of one month, she became a full-fledged committed vegan. Almost immediately, she became the unofficial go-to person for all things vegan and she became an activist along the way. For her, being vegan reflected back to her not only the values of nonviolence justice, but a practice to remove separation between the self and others, and a way of living that asks the question: What is really important? In April 2014, she founded the Facebook group Manila Vegans to get like-minded people together to support each other and help each other grow the vegan community in Metro Manila.
